Blarney United V St Mary’s U13
It was first division table toppers St Mary’s first visit to Blarney and with a big physical well organised team they were great opponents on the day. Mary’s started the stronger with some good passing movements and were not shy when it came to shooting from distance in the final third then the Blarney keeper Ben Maher was the busier keeper in the opening exchanges. Blarney grew into the game and with when they won a corner in the 15th minute they broke the deadlock when a corner reached the back post and Sean Connolly controlled and blasted home from close range to make it 1-0. Blarney gained confidence from this and in the 20th minute Brian Lowney’s shot from distance made it 2-0 and Blarney pressed for a third before the break but it remained 2-0 at half time. From the kick off in the second half a brilliant through ball from Billy O’Sullivan put Deane Carey through and he beat two players and slotted past the oncoming Marys keeper to make it 3-0. Blarney has most of the possession in the second with Liam Leisk doing well in midfield and Oscar Ahern proving a handful up front. Mary’s got one back with two minutes remaining with a terrific shot from outside the 18yard box which went in off the far post to make it 3-1.
