Blarney United travelled to Watergrasshill at the weekend for a very important top of the table clash against Watergrasshill United.
Blarney started the better of the 2 teams with Jerry Murphy and Charlie Cummins in great form and dictating the pace of the game.
Then with 7 minutes gone a through ball from Charlie Cummis found Sean Connolly on the edge of the box who took a powerful shot which was saved well by the Watergrasshill keeper but the rebound fell to Aaron Healy who finished well but the goal was harshly ruled out for offside.
Blarney continued to play the better football and were rewarded in the 20th minute for their efforts when a great move which was started by the Blarney left back George Forrest who played a great ball down the left wing to Aaron Healy, he’s fantastic skill and ball control cruised past 2 defenders and he then put in a great cross into the box for Sean Connolly to finish superbly to give Blarney the lead.
In the second half Blarney didn’t let up and were unlucky on a few occasions not to get a second goal. With 7 miutes to go Watergrasshill had there best chance of the game but a fantastic save from Blarneys Goalkeeper Michael Lehane ensured there was no way through for the home team.
It was a fantastic team performance with all the squad playing there part in getting the 3 points. Blarney totally deserved the victory and all the lads were a credit to the club for their effort and commitment they showed in very difficult playing conditions!
