Passage 1 – Blarney United 2
Blarney secured a very valuable win away to Passage on Saturday. On a difficult pitch for both teams Blarney lost the toss and Passage opted to play up the hill in the first half. Blarney started the game very well with Ultan Duggan and Sean Lynch dominant in the the middle of the park and linking well with the Blarney forward line.
After 25 minutes a move instigated by the Blarney midfield with some good link up play ended up at Ryan Corbetts feet. With a quick turn he unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the Passage goal. Blarney controlled the rest of the half but were very unfortunate to lose the influence of Ultan Duggan to injury a minute before half time.
The second half Blarney were up against it defending down the hill. A strong rearguard action led by Dermot Crowley and David Murray at centre half ably backed by Rory Goggin and Tom Flaherty at full back and Andy O’ Donoghue in goal kept Passage at bay for a period. Despite this, a mistake led to Passage equaliser eventually. Blarney were not finished however and a deep cross to the far post that took out the entire Passage defence by Rory Goggin resulted in a rare headed goal by Kian Madden.
A deserved win for Blarney. Special thanks to Tom Flaherty and Sean Holland from the u19 squad for helping out again and acquitting themselves very well again.
