Cobh 2 Blarney Development Squad 0

Blarney went into this game not having played since 02 December. On a difficult pitch that was pretty cut up after a game on it the previous day, the lack of match practice was soon evident. Despite this Blarney were awarded a penalty after 20 minutes for a blatant push in the back in the box. However the keeper guessed right and diving to his right saved the penalty.

Blarney spent the rest of the half under the cosh from a well drilled and very experienced Cobh side. This increased pressure eventually led to Cobh getting awarded their own penalty ten minutes before halftime which they duly dispatched into the bottom corner of the net.
The second half saw a much better performance from Blarney. Despite this Cobh still created chances but the final ball or shot was wayward. Blarney did create chances and but for a couple of last ditch tackles might well have equalised.
Cobhs second goal came with ten minutes left against a now tiring Blarney team where match fitness was starting to tell. It still had an element of luck however as it took an o.g. to settle it despite a fine initial save by Andy O’Donoghue. Best Blarney performers on the day were Aonghus Duggan and Kian Madden.
