Fermoy 1 – BUFC 2
Blarney under 14’s travelled to Fermoy for a Friday evening kick off, Blarney started well and really put it up to a physical Fermoy side, this was a great game for the neutral and had it all. Blarney were on the attack from the start and Dean O’Shea was unlucky not to convert with three great saves from the Fermoy Keeper but the break through came when Luke Keogh won the ball in mid field and found Dean O Shea with who headed down the wing where he crossed to Conor O Riordan and Conor found the net to put Blarney ahead and this settled Blarney down and the midfield pair of Sean Mc Carthy and Shane O Shea we winning the battles in midfield. Ben Hutchinson and Adam Higgins were keeping the tricky Fermoy wingers at bay. The first half ended with Blarney up by a single goal.
To Fermoy’s credit they came out with real intent in the second half and had some good chances but Ben Maher was excellent in the Blarney goal and made some top class saves. Blarney were playing a brilliant counter attacking football and were hitting Fermoy on the break but the Fermoy keeper was in top form pulled off some great saves. The Fermoy goal came from some good play by the powerful Fermoy winger who powered through and had a bit of luck on the way and toe poked the equaliser. Blarney did not panic and the counter attacking football paid off when Conor O Riordan was put through and the teams top goal scorer finished like all good strikers. Blarney put more pressure on and were awarded a penalty but the Fermoy keeper pulled off a world class save to keep Fermoy in the game. Blarney saw out the game and got a brilliant away win. Managers man of the match was Conor O Riordan but it could have gone to any number of players. Management team have to commend the players attitude and commitment throughout the last week. 3 games in 6 days is a tough ask for any squad and to have picked up 7 points goes to show the full squads team spirit. Special thanks to Billy, Ben, Jack and Gavin under 13’s that helped us out also. Roll on the next game.
