Quarter Final Munster Senior Cup
Today was the third time this season that Blarney played Avondale and to win a third time was a big ask for the Div 1 leaders. The game started with a great tempo and was end to end. Blarney took the lead on 15 minutes when Blarney broke down the centre with Anthony Crowley and his delayed threaded pass to Alan Quill was timed perfectly and Quill swivelled to get the ball out from his feet and put low into the Avondale corner to make it 1-0. Blarney The football from both sides was superb and Blarney had the better chances in the overall game and should have close the game out earlier. Martin O’Sullivan was in great form down the right side and his speed was causing Avondale problems and in the 25 minute he should have made it 2-0 when he beat the Avondale left back and pulled his shot just wide to the relief of the Avondale keeper. The second half continued at the same pace and again Blarney had the better chances and on the 60th minute Blarney broke from the back and with Alan Quill pulling out left to receive the through pass from Ray O Leary and he made a run into the box and his curling shot just went wide of the top corner. The Blarney defence were superb throughout the game with Leahy, Weldon & and man of the match O Sullivan showing their experience and they never looked like been breached. Avondale pressed hard in the end and when a free kick dropped into the box in the 85th minute Avondale had two players on side and by the time they made up their mind who was shooting the Blarney Keeper came off his line to block the shot on the six-yard line.
A well-deserved win For Blarney today and Cork City will not have an easy task ahead of them Friday night with Blarney having the crucial home advantage
