Blarney Utd 2 V Carrigaline Utd 2
Both teams had no cup games this weekend and played a friendly in O’Shea park.
The game was played at a high pace by two good footballing sides.
Blarney took the lead in the 9th minute when Darragh Ahern chased down a back pass to the Carrig keeper and his determination payed off when he flicked the ball over the keeper and followed in to slot home from close range. Blarney got on top following the goal and applied good pressure for the remainder of the half and in the 25th minute they got their second from a corner when Cameron Lynch delivered a great cross into the six-yard box which was volleyed into the roof of the net by Evan Crean to make it 2-0 at half time.
The second half was also lively and both teams had many chances, Carrigaline’s first came in the 40th minute with a great shot from outside the box that was brilliantly pushed away by Ben Maher. Blarney had several chances that they did not take and Carrigline took advantage of this in the 45th minute when they worked their way into the Blarney box and when the Carrig striker shot from close range Maher produced two fine saves but Carrig found the net with the third. Carrigaline gained momentum following their goal and following several attacks scored with 5 minutes to go with a close range shot to level the game at full time.
